SOLUTIONS

Activists and scientists all over the world are doing their best to work against the hands of climate change as of now. According to UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), "51 trillion microplastics litter the seas". By 2050, 99 percent of sea birds will have ingested plastic. This tragic situation is getting worse by the moment. We are hoping that as time goes by, more and more people will be inspired to help those who look up to a better place. There is no specific key to this growing problem in the present, and there probably won't be in the future. The solution to this challenge won't come in all at once. The only way to get past this obstacle is to work together and make multiple solutions become one. Here are some examples of what can be done.

  • Use more reusable water bottles, bags, and other items

    • Did you know that 8 million metric tons of plastic end up in the ocean every year? A large part of saving the ocean will be getting rid of these plastic items. In order for this to happen, we need to obtain more reusable objects to speed up the process.

  • Reuse and Reduce the use of plastic

    • This is relatively simple. According to www.wwf.org, "nearly all the plastic ever created still exists in some form today." Plastic is hard to decompose but it can be durable if treated well. Whether you are grocery shopping or getting supplies for a party you can use reusable bags. This simple task can save thousands of marine animals from death.

  • Participate in beach clean-ups

    • Beach clean-ups will be a surefire way to get rid of plastic. If there is any spare time on your hands, it is always good to participate in this clean-up. It is never too late to save the planet. If interested, oceanconservancy.org might be a good place to start.

  • Support ocean protecting organizations

    • There are many notable organizations that help toward protecting the ocean. For example, Ocean Conservancy, Surfrider Foundation, Oceana, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, Take 3, Green Peace, and UNEP are some of the impactful corporations that work towards a better place. Donations or volunteering will always be welcomed.

  • Spread the idea of saving the environment

    • This can come in many different ways. Making a poster or advocating for a better environment is a good way to help spread the news. The age doesn't matter. Anyone is qualified to help the environment. There are many things that you can do. Whether it is art, writing, media, or speech, it is all crucial towards saving our Earth.

  • Reduce the use of fossil fuels and unnecessary items

    • Reducing the use of fossil fuels and items is a strategy that everyone can use to help the environment. For example, try riding a bike or walking to places near you instead of driving. This is beneficial for your health and the environment. Reducing the use of items can also be done in a variety of ways. Start by trying to take shorter showers, limiting buying unnecessary things, and later, you could change to using renewable energy instead of fossil fuels. Helping the environment starts with you.
